Yukio Haruno 「春野幸生」

“Somewhere between a dream and a shadow”

PLOT

STORY LINE

Miyagi, 20XXThe nocturnal heavens lay shrouded in impenetrable darkness, their sombre countenance veiled beneath a thin tapestry of blackened clouds. Even the pale and distant moonlight proved feeble against the gloom, unable to cast its silver radiance upon the earth below. It was as though the heavens themselves had donned the garments of mourning, lamenting the loss of the sun's golden splendour since the fateful afternoon.Drip.A solitary raindrop descended from the heavens, soon followed by countless others, their gentle patter breaking the oppressive silence of the night. The rain fell upon the barren courtyard of a grand residence, its once-verdant grounds now bearing an air of desolation. Upon the veranda sat a young maiden, alone with her thoughts and the weight of an inexplicable sorrow. Behind her stood the great house that had once been her sanctuary—a place of warmth, affection, and refuge from the cruelties of the world.“Surely, this is naught but a dream... is it not?” she murmured, her voice scarcely louder than the whispering rain.“It ought not to have come to pass.”The latter words escaped her in a hoarse and trembling whisper, burdened by the tears she had struggled so desperately to suppress. Yet, what else could be expected of a maiden so young, whose tender heart had been subjected to a grief far beyond her years? The day had been destined to be one of celebration, a cherished occasion meant to bring joy not only to her, but also to the two souls dearest to her heart—her beloved parents.Alas, fate had ordained otherwise. The calamity that befell her parents left the maiden's memories shrouded in an impenetrable mist. The events that had unfolded before her very eyes seemed to have vanished into the deepest recesses of her subconscious, concealed as though her mind itself had deemed them too dreadful to endure. She could no longer grasp the truth of what had transpired; only an aching emptiness remained, an obscure sorrow that lingered within her heart without recollection or explanation. In the aftermath of that ill-fated night, those who surrounded her gradually abandoned all mention of her parents. Whether out of compassion, discomfort, or a reluctance to disturb the fragile silence that had settled around the girl, none dared to speak of the departed couple in her presence. Their names, once spoken with affection, became unspoken remnants of a past that seemed to have been sealed away.Even a dear friend, with whom she had once shared the simple intimacies of companionship, remained ignorant of her misfortune. Having been separated for two long years, the friend knew nothing of the sorrow that had befallen her during their time apart. The truth remained buried beneath the quiet veil of her existence, until the day their paths crossed once more and the silence of those lost years was at last disturbed. The maiden who sat beneath the mourning heavens was known as Haruno Yukio. The sole daughter of the Haruno family, she had once belonged to a household graced by the warmth of parental affection. Yet, upon the very day she should have been welcomed into another year of life, her parents were taken from this world, leaving behind a daughter whose birthday would forever bear the shadow of an untimely farewell. Thus, what ought to have been a day of remembrance for the gift of her existence became, instead, an anniversary of loss—a cruel irony woven into the very fabric of Haruno Yukio's fate.
